Quiting smoking is not advisable if you have no long-term plans about it. People say they’ve already quit several times and yes, they have also gone back faster than they would say “I’m planning to quit.” Even though you have a number of friends who swear they will just quit cold and simple, by the next time you see them, they’re back in the spiraling spell of smoking.
Go through the proper journey or process that could save you from eternal coughing and wheezing. Like living, you go through a cycle so much for quiting smoking too. You go through the following steps:
• Stage One
The first stage is all about pre-contemplation. Just like now when you have thrown your cigarette butt in the trash bin and is now lighting up another one. You are not dead serious on quitting – however it did run through your mind for like a nano-second though.
• Stage Two
This stage is called contemplation. It’s like you’re caught in between eating that red juicy apple or taking that chocolate cake with apple tidbits. You are thinking of going healthy by quiting smoking yet you’re not 100% sure you’ll do it.
• Stage Three
This stage is all about preparation. It will take you several tries but at least you plan about it. It’s just like making a new year’s resolution that this year you WILL quit it.
• Stage Four
This is the hard part – acting out your plan. Remember that the first week of quitting is indeed the worst of them all. Here you will experience withdrawal symptoms and all the nicotine deprivation side effects.
• Stage Five
Congratulations for getting up to this stage. It’s all about maintenance and making sure that you will not go back to smoking even if you have been free for months or even years.
Quiting smoking would not make you feel less as a person. Your decision to quit is actually the best thing you did for your life. It’s not the end of the world but rather it’s the start of something good.
